Several years ago afer an airfare course in Seeheim, Germany I decieded to travel around Germany and Switzerland by Rail. I first travelled to Basel to see some of my family then headed up to Zermat to do a couple of days sking. The trip up to Zermat is one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world. It is a slow trip but one enjoys the speed as I took so many beautiful photos of the unique Swiss and Itialian Alps.
I then travelled to Munich where I enjoying Octoberfest for a couple of days then decieded to at last visit Berlin for the first time. I had made good friends in Munich at Octoberfest. One new friend owned a Taxi so he drove mo to the Rail Station where I boarded the Train which I found out on boarding was an East German Train (this trip was prior to the Wall coming down). I borded to find my 4 Berth empty so I put my things on the bottom bunk which I was assigned to and said good bye to the friends I had made.
The wistle blew and all boarded the train which departed only a few minutes late. When I entered my compartment there were 3 ladies in the cabin!!! I asked them if they were in the correct compartment and they assured me that they were and that the East German trains sold tickets and berths by the number not gender. Well it was quite uncomfortable at first as it was late afternoon and the journy was an overnight trip. I told the ladies that I would proceed to the Buffet Car to have a few drinks and some dinner and be back later so they could organise themselves. I took out my pyjamas and put them on the pillow so as not to disturb them on my return.
After a few beers and some dinner wth some new friends in the Buffet Car I decieded to adjurn to my compartment. When I arrived the 3 ladies had folded my pyjamas like a 6 star hotel had written a note wishing me pleasant dreams together with a piece of choclate on the pillow............
